MASTERS OF PHOTOGRAPHY SUMMARY

William Eggleston:

At an early age Eggleston showed interest in visual media by buying post cards, drawing, and cutting pictures out of magazines. He was later sent to boarding school where he discovered that he wasn't into sports or hunting and he favored artistic programs. When he first started photography Eggleston was inspired by the photographer Robert Frank, an american photographer, and Henri Cartier-Bresson, a french photographer. He experienced with more color phtotgraphy rather than black and white and found his talent. He later taught at Harvard University and found dye-transfer printing which captured most of Eggleston's best works. People enjoyed his photography because of the simplicity and his subjects were always something ordinarily seen everyday, but through his eyes. "He has a unique ability to find beauty, and striking displays of color, in ordinary scenes," (Masters of Photography website).
